Rab Noakes & Kathleen MacInnes
30 August, 2014 @ 8:00 pm
£12
An Lanntair presents a unique collaboration between singer-songwriter Rab Noakes and Gaelic singer Kathleen MacInnes – an evening of Love, Ballads and Murder. They will uncover songs which appear in Scots and Gaelic cultures such as ‘The Two Sisters/Minorie’ (‘A Bhean Iadiach’) and ‘An da fheannaig’ (‘The Twa’ Corbies’). These will sit alongside such songs as ‘Down in the Willow Garden’, ‘Long Black Veil’ and ‘Valley of Tears’.
The show is about storytelling and song, a couple originally crafted by Rab and Kathleen, others traditional, will be performed in Gaelic, Scots and English. Kathleen and Rab will interweave the versions from each culture.
This will be a thoroughly enjoyable evening of entertainment from two consummate artists from different cultures and different generations.
Kathleen MacInnes
Kathleen is a native of South Uist, Outer Hebrides and lives in Glasgow with her partner and three sons. In 2010, she appeared on the soundtrack to the Ridley Scott film Robin Hood. Kathleen was at home in South Uist when she was contacted via social networking site Facebook and asked to work with the film-maker behind such huge hits as Alien, Blade Runner and Thelma and Louise. Her vocals, inspired by ancient Gaelic chants, feature prominently in Scott’s film, with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
Rab Noakes
Looking and sounding about half his age, Rab embarked on a thoroughly engaging journey through 40 years of song writing. One of the highlights came in the encore, with an excellent reading of Dylan’s Mississippi and, all told, this was a thoroughly enjoyable evening from one of Scotland’s great songsmiths.
