Searching for Sugar Man is about a gifted singer-songwriter from Detroit who was an enigma. His face half-hidden by long flowing hair and dark glasses, he sang in folk music bars with his back turned to the audience. His name was Sixto Rodriguez. This remarkable bittersweet film about searching for the musician Rodriquez is joyful and ultimately life affirming. The film moves between Detroit and Cape Town as two South African fans set out to find what happened to their hero.
Searching for Sugar Man is a valentine to every artist who feels like they toil away in obscurity, unsure of or unaware of the impact they might make on the world. ( Directed by Malik Bendjelloul )
