On Sat 7 May, the Get In Mentor Promoters met at Rise Dance Festival in Findhorn to find out more about how they will be supporting the next generation of promoters through their involvement in our youth promoter scheme, GET IN. As well as a chance to catch up with each other, and see some fantastic dance shows programmed by Bodysurf Scotland at Universal Hall, the Mentor Promoters met with our ‘Mentors Mentor’, to discuss what it actually means to be a mentor.
The Mentors were encouraged to talk of their own experiences and lessons learnt, in order to establish the role. Everyone agreed that the Mentor should allow the Mentee to make their own choices, and guide them to take responsibility for their own development. The Mentors will be matched with a Youth Promoter in a different Highland location, to widen the young promoters geographic network, and they will dedicate an hour a month (6-8 sessions) to supporting their Mentee.
There are 14 Youth Promoters participating in the pilot year of the scheme, who are all looking forward to choosing their Mentor Promoter over the next couple of weeks, and learning from their experience over the course of the programme.
