Thanks to everyone who came along to our Summer Social in Inverness. We gorged on beautiful music, tasty tacos and good conversation. If you missed out, we have our Fringe meet-up happening this month too. Come and join us on Mon 19 for lunch and a break from the hustle – we’ll be in the thick of it, just off the Royal Mile. Register here.
Seed Fund is supporting emerging artist Valeria Levi and Craignish Village Hall with two days of dance and creative writing workshop on 12 & 13 August. Blending movement, words and music, Not Far from the Forest will explore our relationship with nature, what the forest can teach us if we listen, and our need for ‘space to breathe’. Everyone welcome, just bring an open mind and comfy clothes! You can find out more about Valeria’s project here.
In other Seed Fund news, we’ve awarded Findhorn Bay Arts £500 to support Rural Connections: an initiation and development of Scottish based exchange between FBA and Dumfries and Galloway arts organisations The Stove Network, Upland Arts and D&G Arts Festival. Strathearn Arts and Eco Drama have also been successful in securing £1,000 for engagement with local schools.
Performers, the above is a good reminder that you can apply for Seed Fund too, as long as it’s in collaboration with a promoter member. Find out more here.
We’re seeing more and more live performances pop up across the region, with support from our rolling Programming Pot. This month we’re helping the Macphail Centre to bring Dogstar’s The Fallen Angels of the Moine to Ullapool. Get in touch with fee@thetouringnetwork.com if you have a project that would benefit from our support.
As you may know, we’ve been busy working on a shiny new website. Sadly our web developer was unable to complete the project, which has meant a delay and a rethink. We’re delighted to be back on track with a brilliant new developer and will share a launch date in due course. In the meantime, you can update your event listings here, and they will continue to be shared across external platforms. We have a mountain of resources to share with you – and currently nowhere to host them – so please, if you’re in need of specific templates, information or advice, email fee@thetouringnetwork.com and she will share directly until we have a fully functioning virtual home.
Feedback forms are incredibly important to us as we try to build an honest picture of audiences across the region, to help all of you and also to report to funders. If you’re yet to submit feedback from a supported show and/or would like help and advice with this generally please get in touch.
Mixtape, a musical project, supported by the National Theatre of Scotland, captures the real stories of Scotland. The team are currently in the research phase of a live theatre project about life in the highlands and are keen to connect with all of you. If you feel part of the highland community and have ‘a wild and lonely place’ to tell them about, please get in touch with Dawn and John at mixtapescotland@gmail.com.
We’re offering members funded places to Samhain Sounds on 2 November in Glasgow. Curated by CMS Associate Artist, Linda Buckley, the evening promises an immersive experience with performances, film screening with live score & installation. If you’re interested please email office@thetouringnetwork.com.
We’re still working at a reduced capacity with annual leave and childcare responsibilities. If you’d like to speak on the phone, you can reach us on Mondays and Tuesdays. Otherwise please email office@thetouringnetwork.com and be aware it may take a little longer than usual to reply.
