Get In

The Purpose of Get In

A group of young promoters who took part in the Get In programme. They are sitting outdoors in a line, with their backs to the camera. They are looking across a loch with hills beyond.

Running between 2016-2019, GET IN supported 20 young people aged between 16-26 living in the Highlands and Islands.

The programme provided participants with the training, knowledge and expertise required to programme the live events they want to see in their communities.

What it involved

Training & Workshops

Residential training weekends, discussions and practical sessions which covered An introduction to Promoting, Getting Started as a Promoter, and The Practicalities of programming a tour.

Bursaries

Youth Promoters could apply for bursaries to attend a range of performances and events across Scotland. From major festivals to events in Touring Network venues, these experiences enabled them to be inspired by and network with performers.

Mentorship

Each Youth Promoter was paired with an existing network promoter from elsewhere in the Highlands and Islands, who encouraged them to develop their skills and confidence throughout the programme.

Programming

Youth promoters worked together with their peers to programme and promote a tour to venues in their communities across the Highlands and Islands.

"I’ll gain an insight and perspective from an experienced mentor – experience is the best skill you can have and the best way to learn. It will be beneficial to have someone to keep in contact with regarding promoting in case I need advice in reference to contracts, costing, etc."

Youth Promoter feedback

"I enjoyed listening to Yvonne from Strathpeffer Pavilion speak about how she costs an event and tips for applying to funding. You can see she is really good and passionate about what she does."

"I enjoyed seeing the Isle of Coll and what happens on the island. It’s inspiring to see the work that has gone on to build a beautiful community hall and put on events. It was also lovely to see the large number of people from the community attend their Spring Concert."
