The Angus Nicolson Band

12 November, 2016 @ 7:30 pm

£10

Founded in 2009 and hailing from the Isle of Skye this line-up features three of the most talented musicians in the Highlands.  With an opening set from Reece MacKay and Lauren Byrne and guest Gaelic singer Ellen MacDonald.

In the driving seat is Angus Nicolson, from Sleat, on Highland Pipes, Border Pipes and Whistles.  Angus now resides in Fort William.  Angus is expertly flanked by guitarist, Murdo Cameron from Glenelg, and Andrew MacPherson from Portree, now living in Glasgow, on Percussion, Pipes and Whistles.  Each member comes from a musical family and have many influences that help them shape their music.  The music the boys concentrate on is of Highland and Gaelic orientation, and their secret is to give the music a contemporary feel whilst always remaining true to their roots.

August 2010 saw the release of their debut album “Lasses That Baffle Us” on FOTS records, produced by Rick Taylor.  Off the back of the album the Angus Nicolson Trio became a popular and regular sight on the festival scene with many’s a tv and radio broadcast to match.

Now in 2016, the trio are back and bring with them their second album “Sealladh Ard” which was produced by Allan Henderson.  Sealadh Ard is the name the late Ivan MacDonald, North Uist, gave his house.  Ivan was a close friend of the band and there is a tune dedicated to him on the album.  The album cover is a painting by Ivan’s sister Kate, and is of the view from his house.  The music on this new album is a very personal collection of tunes relating to the boys’ homelands, upbringings, friends and family.

“Sealladh Ard” has been released by Macmeanmna and can be found at www.gaelicmusic.com
