David Alexander
26 March, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
£10David has performed at such venues as the Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and the Guildhall and the Pump Rooms in Bath, and in Europe and South Korea. His performances have also been heard on BBC Radio 3 and Radio France.
2015 sees David balancing his performance commitments with teaching roles at The Royal Academy of Music Junior Department and at Eton College. He is regularly invited to appear at the Munster Square Concert Series in London, and this season is performing Messiaen’s epic work for two pianos, “Visions de l’Amen” with fellow pianist Dominic John. He also remains in high demand as an accompanist and chamber musician.
David Alexander graduated with distinction from the Royal College of Music in 2002 having won most of the piano prizes, including the Dannreuther Concerto Prize, which he was awarded on two occasions for performances of concertos by Schoenberg and Poulenc with RCM orchestras. He was also twice a finalist in the prestigious Chappell Gold Medal, and in 2000 was awarded the highest possible mark for his undergraduate final recital.
“…(his) assured performance of this challenging work was deeply impressive. Rising to the technical hurdles of the frantic toccata was an achievement in itself, but Alexander also found a seething turbulence in the piece’s long, central movement giving it much-needed momentum and a visceral impact.” The Times (Tippet’s third sonata)
