Hannah Fisher and Sorren MacLean with support from Ali Begg
13 August, 2016 @ 8:00 pm
£8Duo Hannah Fisher and Sorren MacLean play a mix of original and contemporary songs and tunes, blending rich vocal harmonies with bluegrass influenced fiddle tunes. When not writing, recording and performing together, both Hannah and Sorren tour extensively with Idlewild, Roddy Woomble, King Creosote and Karen Matheson. Both have released solo records in the past couple of years, with Sorren’s debut album ‘Winter Stay Autumn’ being included in The Herald’s ‘Top 50 Scottish Albums of 2015’. Recent successes include sharing stages with the likes of Ricki-Lee Jones and Turin Brakes as well as performing at Glastonbury. They’ll be performing new material from their forthcoming duo album.
Wandering singer-songwriter Ali Begg was raised in the West Highlands of Scotland, amidst one of the most potent musical cultures the world over. Learning to play guitar at the hands of local bad influence, dear friend and rare talent Jim Hunter from the age of 7, Ali spent much of his teenage years playing fuzzy bass-lines in a loud (and not very good) heavy rock band and underage drinking in Fort William’s BA Club before growing a beard and moving to Glasgow. The big smoke would see him set down the bass in favour of the acoustic guitar, taking inspiration from both the American and Scottish indie-folk scenes in the development of his own material. Post-university, Ali now rests his head back home in Glenuig, where he is gradually recording his debut album, a vaguely eclectic and deeply personal collection of songs featuring an array of musicians who are far more talented and accomplished than he is.
