Iain Morrison

11 December, 2015 @ 8:30 pm

Free

It is easy to see why Iain Morrison is held in such high regard. His music is something to get lost in and has a tremendous amount of atmosphere.

Iain Morrison hails from the Isle of Lewis. He first learnt to play the bagpipes and progressed onto the guitar and has since developed his own style of singing and song writing.

Iain Morrison has made a number of albums which are, Empty Beer Bottles and Peatfire Smoke (2004), Skimming Stones…Sinking Boats (2008), Trust the Sea to Guide me (2010), Haunted Bird with the poet/storyteller Daibhidh Martin (2011), To the Horizon, Sir (2013) and his latest album Eas (2015).

He was also commissioned to write a ‘New Voices’ piece for the Celtic Connections festival which he based on ‘ceol mor’ melodies. He received a 5 star review from the Scotsman newspaper for this work. Not only has this but he won the Composer of the Year at the Scottish Trad Music Awards.

‘If you are a fan of Neil Young especially, but a bit scunnered with his musical meandering, this may give you the fix that you are looking for.’
