Kakatsitsi & The Afro-Gaelic Project

21 August, 2015 @ 7:00 pm

£10

This is a new project built around the Kakatsitsi Drummers from Ghana who have played at the Ardross Village Hall on previous tours, namely the Afro-Gaelic Fusion Project featuring the drummers and a group of Gaelic musicians put together by renowned singer, piper and cultural historian Griogair Labhruidh.

As well as a performance dimension, there will also be an educational dimension which will be built on the foundation of Kakatsitsi’s successful educational dimension, with a contribution from Griogair in the educational performance whether on the pipes or singing, followed by workshops in drumming, dance and also Gaelic singing. Griogair will deliver some simple Gaelic singing workshops in which he will concentrate on giving the children examples of the the most rhythmic Gaelic songs he has collected from the aural tradition. Simple vocables  and nonsense songs with very easy words will expose the students to the deep musicality of the tradition in a very accessible manner. Even those with no previous experience of Gaelic vocal music will come away with an increased awareness of their own natural musicality, all through teaching methods that have been used for thousands of years in an unbroken tradition.
