PROLIFIC Scottish folk musician Kris Drever, who moved to Shetland in late 2013, is to record and launch a new EP featuring some of the islands’ finest musicians and singers.
The Orcadian’s voice and guitar form part of the backbone of today’s contemporary roots scene and he is widely admired for his work both as a solo musician and with ground-breaking folk trio LAU, billed as “the UK’s best live band” by The Guardian earlier this year.
With his regular sidekick Eamonn Coyne in tow, Drever will work with local players on a five-track EP of tunes and songs at Mareel’s recording studio this summer.
The release will have its official launch at Lerwick’s flagship arts venue with a live performance featuring the musicians appearing on the EP on Tuesday 9 September, before Drever and Coyne embark on a fortnight-long nationwide promotional tour.
