Luke Daniels and the New World Drovers

28 July, 2014 @ 7:45 pm

Free
Luke Daniels playing Guitar

Songs and traditional music inspired by the Scottish Enlightenment and exploring the extent that Gaelic culture and language influenced leading thinkers of the time. Including a performance of one of the 2014 New Music Biennial works New World Drovers by Matheu Watson and Luke Daniels which recalls the long-vanished trade of Scottish cattle-droving and the hardy Highland cattle drovers’ skills that were exported to make their mark in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Multi- instrumentalist Luke Daniels is described by fRoots magazine as “having entered the pantheon of great accordion players” for his 2012 double album The Mighty Box. More recently, he’s gained recognition as a singer-songwriter on guitar and piano having released his debut songs album earlier this year. Luke is joined by Lauren MacColl, one of Scotland’s most expressive fiddle players and winner of the 2004 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, and singer/songwriter, instrumentalist and music producer, Ewan MacPherson.

This event is free but booking is strongly recommended.
