Red Dirt Skinners
5 August, 2015 @ 8:00 pm
£10The Red Dirt Skinners are the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues Awards and the British Country Music Awards with a genre-busting sound that blends Country, Blues, Americana and Folk music.
Described as “The First Couple of British Country” Sarah and Rob Skinner have been writing songs from the heart and their own experiences since they met in 2009. Witty and pointed lyrics, the twosome produce a sound much bigger than two people should usually make – they are described as one of Britain’s most engaging duos of the moment of any genre (Hebden Bridge Blues Festival).
With influences spanning Country music, folk, blues, bluegrass, old time, Texas country, Americana, Southern Rock and Honky Tonk – this event will make for a unique and special one at the Pavilion this August.
Sarah, who won Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2014 British Blues Awards, plays the soprano saxophone alongside Rob’s guitar, creating an entirely unique sound. As Lisa Marie Presley said of a private performance the Skinner’s played to her in 2009 – “[The] guys were incredible. Fantastic harmonies. Unbelievable talent!”
“Superb harmonies, fab guitar from Rob, and Sarah is astounding on the saxophone – their gig is still talked about – Careful…they will steal your hearts too!” – The Sofa Sessions
“The Red Dirt Skinners prove that the UK can rival points in Deep South America when it comes to Rootsy Country.” – Maverick Magazine
“Banjos, fingerpicking and male-female duelling vocals that all recall the good ol’ times back home.” – Time Out London Magazine
The Red Dirt Skinners are no stranger to Scotland either, recording their most recent album ‘Live in Aberdeen 2014’ described as a ‘warts and all’ recording at the Blue Lamp in July 2014. For more information on the Red Dirt Skinners, to listen to their music visit www.reddirtskinners.com
