MENDELSSOHN Symphony No 9 for Strings ‘Swiss’
TAKTAKISHVILI Concerto No 2 for violin and strings
TCHAIKOVSKY Souvenir de Florence
SCO STRINGS – ISABELLE VAN KEULEN – Director/Violin

Since winning BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1984, Van Keulen has been in high demand as a soloist across the world. Here she plays Taktakishvili’s seldom-heard Violin Concerto No 2 and directs the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s bright and untroubled Souvenir de Florence, which he wrote in 1886 in the last sunny spell of his life. The SCO open their concert with Mendelssohn’s youthful Ninth Symphony, inspired by the beautiful Alpine landscape which captured his imagination en route home from a family holiday when he was just 14 years old.
