THE TOURING NETWORK LISTINGS POLICY
The Touring Network (Highlands & Islands) is a constituted charitable organisation that works
to connect, support and represent those who deliver cultural events of the highest quality in
rural and island communities across Scotland and to make this activity visible to the widest
possible audience.
WHAT WE LIST
Our listings are intended to give useful information about accessing professional, live
performances across the region. Only those events that are classed as ‘professional live
performance’ are eligible, including theatre, dance, music, kids, comedy and spoken word.
EXCLUSIONS
Due to the remit of our work, we do not currently include listings for events other than those
covered by the term professional, live performance. This includes visual arts, creative writing,
design, crafts, film. Events falling under these categories may be eligible for inclusion if they
include elements of live performance for example a performative literature event or a piece
of live performance art – in these circumstances inclusion will be at the discretion of The
Touring Network.
In a small number of circumstances, exceptions may be made based on:
- Membership – where members aims and objectives are clearly aligned to those of
the Touring Network - Festivals – where members aims and objectives are clearly aligned to those of the
Touring Network. - Partnership – where partners aims and objectives are clearly aligned to those of
the Touring Network and seeks to increase audiences and strengthen communities
across the regions where we work.
Exceptions and inclusions are at the discretion of The Touring Network.
DATA THISTLE
As of March 2023, we no longer manage our event listings in-house, as it has become
increasingly impractical to keep on top of the number events submitted as a small team,
working part-time. We are now working in partnership with Data Thistle to offer our members
a more reliable service through our website. In addition, this service offers a far wider reach
by automatically submitting your events to other key external channels such as tourism
agencies, national newspapers, local councils, accommodation providers including
VisitScotland, Scotrail, The List, enjoy.ly and inyourarea.co.uk. The combined reach of these
sites is over 5 million people a month.

HOW TO SUBMIT LISTINGS
Promoter Members in The Highlands & Islands
If you’re a promoter/venue member, we may be able to work with you to pull events directly
from your website/box office system, without the need to fill out forms. We have already looked closely at all our members’ websites to identify where this is and isn’t possible. If you think we’ve missed something and/or are interested in developing your site to synch with Data Thistle in future, please email [email protected].
If you’re a promoter/venue member with a basic website or limited online presence, please
go to the Data Thistle website to submit your events. The information will be sent
directly to Data Thistle for distribution across multiple channels in addition to The
Touring Network site.
Performer Members touring to The Highlands & Islands
If you’re a performer with an upcoming event in the Highlands & Islands, please check to see if
your event is already listed. If not – and the venue is a member of The Touring Network –
please fill out this form. If your host venue is NOT a member of The Touring Network, we
accept listings on a case-by-case basis. Please submit for approval.
New event listings
Must be submitted a minimum of seven days in advance. Events do not appear
automatically on our website. We pull events from Data Thistle every Monday.
You can manage, cancel or edit your event through the Data Thistle website.
Please ensure listings information is thorough and accurate and be sure to include a good
quality image. We cannot publish listings missing key information and/or do not have an
image. Please see tips and advice on how to make a good listing.
