Magnetic North creates and develops new work through a coordinated programme of creative research & development, artist support and production.

Productions include We Will Hear the Angels; Walden (an adaptation of Henry David Thoreau’s book); Lost in Music, a gig-theatre retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice; Our Fathers, a collaboration with award-winning playwright Rob Drummond; A Walk at the Edge of the World, a performance walk created in collaboration with environmental artists Sans façon; and Sex and God by acclaimed playwright Linda McLean. Pass the Spoon – a collaboration with Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley and composer David Fennessy – is being revived by Opera North in late 2025. Our creative development programme enables theatre makers and other artists to work together, try out new ideas and introduce them to an audience.
