One man in his time
26 November, 2016 @ 8:00 pm
£10Katy moved back to Scotland in 2013 after living abroad for many years in the US and Holland. She noticed a conservatism of taste and aversion to contemporary classical music here, with ensembles coming to Inverness changing their programmes, substituting 20th century pieces they played in the central belt with older works. She found this alarming and in her own words she says “ contemporary music is living music, you can chat to the person who wrote it, you can discover it for the first time as a performer or as an audience member”.
She formed the Highland Collective to be a flexible size and to include different disciplines. They present contemporary classical music in ways that give it context and narrative and make the whole experience theatrical and fun.
This performance was workshopped during a residency at Lyth Arts Centre. It uses improvisation, spoken word and mime to flesh out a central performance of a work by Scottish Composer Stuart MacRae.
Text by William Shakespeare
Music by Stuart MacRae, Judith Weir, Peteris Vasks and Highland Collective
