Where the bear sleeps

26 November, 2016 @ 7:30 pm

£8

This program is a collection of stories from the Finnish national epic, The Kalevala. In the first half we hear stories of the creation of the world, of the sweet-voiced fish-bone harp, of the gap-toothed witch of the North who steals the Sun and Moon, locking them in an iron mountain, and of how Old Vaino and the Smith set out North to free them. In the second half we hear of the young rascal who hunts the white swan on Death’s Dark River, and of his mother’s journey to sing him back from the Dead. Considered in content to reach back some 5 000 years, through spoken word, rhythm and song Nick will evoke an ancient world of magic, unfolding against a mysterious and beautiful landscape of forest and tundra.
