Siobhan Miller Band

Siobhan Miller is one of the foremost singers in Scotland. Her range includes Scottish traditional, contemporary and self-penned material. In December 2011 she was voted ‘Scots Singer of the Year’ in the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, and again in 2013. She is also an experienced singing tutor and works for Live Music Now. Most recently she has formed Salt House with Lauren MacColl, Ewan MacPherson and Euan Burton, and released their debut album, ‘Lay your Dark Low’. Her hotly anticipated solo album is due for release in 2014.

Siobhan began singing in public in her early teens. Since then, she has developed her style through collaborations and studies with many of Scotland’s top musicians. She went on to study Scottish Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and gained a 1st Class Honours BA and the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

With Orcadian musician and singer Jeana Leslie, with whom she won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2008, she has released two highly praised CDs on Greentrax Recordings, ‘In a Bleeze’(2008) and ‘Shadows Tall’ (2010). She contributed two songs to ‘Steele the Show’, the Greentrax celebration CD of the songs of Davy Steele.

Siobhan has performed solo and with Jeana Leslie at clubs and major folk festivals throughout Britain and Europe, including Cambridge, Cropredy, Towersey, Orkney, Stonehaven and Celtic Connections. They have also supported top acts including Andy Irvine and John Doyle, and Judy Collins. She has also performed with Lauren McColl and Ewan MacPherson; with Paul McKenna; and with her father Brian Miller. She was a featured singer on the BBC Scotland Hogmanay Live TV show 2010-11, with the house band led by Phil Cunningham.

Siobhan was a featured singer in the 2009 Celtic Connections ‘Scottish Songbook’ concert, which showcased Scottish songwriting and which was broadcast on BBC Alba TV. She was accompanied by a house band built around Session A9, and sang with Karine Polwart, Inge Thomson and the Glasgow Gospel Truth Choir. Great fun!

Celtic Connections 2011 saw the staging of ‘Steele the Show, where Siobhan performed with folk greats including Patsy Seddon, Kathy Stewart, Mary MacMaster, Donald Hay, Eilidh Shaw, Andy Thorburn, Dick Gaughan, Mairearad Green and Jamie Steele.

In April 2011 Siobhan travelled to New York, where she was the singer in the Broadway production of JM Barries’s ‘Peter and Wendy’ with Alan Kelly directing Johnny Cunningham’s music.

2012 brought new challenges: in Celtic Connections, she appeared in both a concert tribute to Ray Fisher and Ian McCalman’s World War I show ‘Far, far from Ypres’ (later reprised in Edinburgh’s Queens Hall); lots of club and festival appearances with Jeana; and touring with Lauren MacColl and Ewan MacPherson in their winter-themed ‘A Folky Little Christmas’.

2013 began with more Celtic Connections, including ‘Songs of Struggle’ and the CC Burns supper in Kelvingrove art gallery. The rest of the year saw tours in the UK and further afield, including Germany, USA and Barbados.
