David Hughes Dance (DHD) is a small to mid scale touring company that possesses mixed repertoire by some of the world’s most revered dance makers. From its base in Scotland’s capital (Edinburgh), the company takes as its starting point the technical calibre and reputation of its Artistic Director David M Hughes.
Hughes is ‘widely acknowledged as one of the finest contemporary dancers around’ and has worked with LCDT, Rambert, DV8, Adventures in Motion Picture, Siobhan Davies Company and Janet Smith & Dancers to name a few. The subsequent ethos of DHD is to revisit the mentors and choreographers who have shaped Hughes’ own career as a performer.
By commissioning new productions, licensing classics and collaborating with high-profile individuals (Christopher Bruce, Robert Cohan, Matthew Bourne etc), the organisation is able to offer work of an international quality that also represents good value for money. In turn, DHD places audience development at the heart of its practice, ensuring that these high-profile collaborators provide accessible/entertaining works as a means of stimulating fans of dance.
